If you are annoyed by the fact that you can no longer control the volume of native videos in Google Chrome you are not alone. Originally Chrome allowed you to control the volume of videos:

Now Chrome’s new video element design only allows you to mute and unmute the videos:

If you are like me and want to go back to having the old video player, you can do the following:

  • Open a new tab and go to “chrome://flags/#enable-modern-media-controls
  • Select “Disabled” from the dropdown menu next to the “New Media Controls” option.
  • Click the “Relaunch Now” button at the bottom of the screen.

Once Chrome relaunches your native video elements should show as they did before Chrome v67. If you want to know more about what people think and what Google is doing about this you can check out this thread. In fact, this workaround is from one of the replies on this thread.
