Chris, thanks for the directions, but I’m having trouble installing the Swahili version of Watchtower Library 2015 on El Capitan. I get a message that says “The Program WTLibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.”

Curious if these directions don’t cover 2015 or languages besides english? Any ideas?

Wayne Faapale · September 21, 2016 at 1:30 AM

I am having trouble with the Zip file. The WTL installed completely but when I downloaded the Zip file it gives me “Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.” Please help.

Thank you,

Brother from the 808

Nice step by step tutorial dude

Thanks (y)

The installation was successful up until I tried the zip file in step # 11. The error message I receive is “Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.” Wine installed WT library on my C/Program Files/Watchtower/Watcher Library 2015. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, and I receive the same message. Any suggestions?

Silvio · October 5, 2016 at 12:29 PM

dopo l’aggiornamento automatico periodico di watchtower library , non si apre più ed appare questo messaggio : “Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again”.
Cosa fare ? Grazie per l’aiuto

Dean Russell · October 16, 2016 at 6:42 PM

I get to the stage of opening zip file app and moving it to Applications and I keep getting the Wine screen “Program Error The program WTLibrary.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” The only other detail is that I have the English WT Lib 2015 installed and I am trying to install the WTLIB 2015 Spanish. English works just fine. I’d appreciate any advice. Thank you.
PS I am in a spanish congregation for 27 year now.

thewineitems · November 16, 2016 at 8:03 PM

Thanks for the tutorial 🙂 can you tell me how to do this in windows os?

    David Aslanidis · January 15, 2017 at 9:42 AM

This is only applicable for a OSX/Linux type of operating systems as we are trying to emulate the windows environment. The Watchtower library natively works on Windows OS.

Alvin · January 5, 2017 at 8:47 PM

After step 12 it will not work. Get error message
¨Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again¨

Antonio Lewis Sr · January 15, 2017 at 3:24 PM

I have using the format mentioned here. And I am not having any success. It tells me that the files is not there or not installed.

David Aslanidis · January 17, 2017 at 8:22 AM

Hi Chris,

I would like to make a suggestion. In /Applications/Watchtower Library.app/Contents/MacOS/run.sh you might want to replace all the finds to non case sensitive.

I was having an issue where the app wouldn’t reopen after closing it for the first time. I changed -name to -iname in run.sh and voila! it did the trick.

Just thought you might benefit from this.

Thank you for your work! Great to see this solution.

    Pam Scaringe · May 12, 2017 at 3:09 PM

Thank you so much. This worked. Have you had any success getting the update package to install? It says it is downloaded but only goes to 90% when I try to apply the update.

    Bill · January 1, 2018 at 4:22 PM

    Hi David/Chris,

Thanks for the step-by-step guide. I can’t seem to get the watchtower library icon to open the actual application. I have tried the suggestion by David but I can’t find the information described under run.sh.

    Any help please.

    Kind regards,
    Bill

I keep getting this when I try to open it.
Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.
Don’t know why, followed your instructions exactly for the 2016 WTLIB.
thanks,
steve

My Wine Wt Lib installation on my iMac works fine, but the updates that came out yesterday (23 February) have been failing to completely install. They stop of the 90% completed level. Any ideas about what to do to get these updates to installL

Mark Edwards · March 2, 2017 at 3:57 PM

Hi, can you advise me please. I had WT Library 2015 installed the same as you have described but when I loaded the newer 2016 DVD all went fine as before except it won’t apply the update package that was available. It loads to 90% and then stops. Any suggestions please? Last year’s loaded the mid year update fine.
Many thanks
Mark

I am having the same issue that the other friends have had after following all of the directions from your blog, with the message, “Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.” Is there a solution?

Im trying to install the updates on the new Libray it gets to 90% then will not go any furture.should I delete
the program and install it again. I had no problem installing it the first time.
I would hate to have to buy a windows computer since this is the last CD there will be and it will be all updates. any thoughts it would be helpful

David Sullivan · March 9, 2017 at 7:05 PM

I had to edit the lines 19 and 25 of the run.sh to work with the location of the installed files on my machine.
wtl_path=$(find “$drive_c_path/Program Files/Watchtower/Watchtower Library” -name wtlibrary.exe 2> /dev/null)

But now it works well. Thanks for your help.

Chris,
I keep getting this when I try to open it.
Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.
Don’t know why, followed your instructions exactly for the 2016 WTLIB. The only thing I am unsure of is your instruction at the end to drag and drop the unzipped file into applications. Can you please help.
thanks,
Grace

I am trying to install Watchtower Library 2016. This process breaks down at step 11. Like others, I get an error message that says “Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again”. Do you have any suggestions that could help get this installed on my Mac?

Thank you.

Jack Crail · March 29, 2017 at 3:16 PM

I just installed Watchtower Library 2016 on my Mac running Sierra 10.12.3 using Wine (1.8-rc4) and it runs fine except when I try to apply the new automatic updates. The process hangs at 90% every time. Any ideas?

Just downloaded Wine and installed Watchtower Library with macOS Sierra. Watchtower Library works fine but cannot install updates. The update stalls at 90%. Any suggestions?

Bryce · April 5, 2017 at 11:12 AM

Hi Chris,

Wondering if you have updated to newest library and if so if you’ve been able to successfully run the built in updater.

Thanks!

Linda · April 16, 2017 at 5:26 PM

I was able to get the 2016 Watchtower Library up and running but it won’t allow me to complete updates. It stalls at 90% and won’t go any farther. Your assistance will be appreciated!

Michael · April 21, 2017 at 5:24 AM

Thanks very much for the time you’ve spend on preparing these guidelines. After taking all the steps, I have the same problem as the people above: ‘WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.’ Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Luvina · May 6, 2017 at 12:29 AM

I keep getting unfortunately file must be opened using wine application after dragging zip file in Application directory. Can you tell me how to bypass this? It seems wine app is not recognized when trying to open wtwlibrary.

L. Lefebvre · May 29, 2017 at 10:03 PM

I follow your instructions, and it is working, except when I update it stop at 90%.
I install the 2016 French Watchtower Library (DVD).
I have a iMac 27-inch, late 2009. Processor 3,06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

What can I do?
Thanks

William Leiren · June 9, 2017 at 5:14 PM

I cannot understand how to do this! When I click on the download button, instead of wine being downloaded onto my Mac, it defaults to something called MediaDownloader, which then immediately downloads itself but does nothing else. No WTLibrary, no pop-up screens telling what to do next. It just sits there and tells me something has downloaded 100%, but I have no idea if it’s the thing I want or some pop-up ad that has taken over my computer. Why does this have to be so difficult??? And why couldn’t they have created the WTLibrary for the Mac because that would have made this effortless. I have absolutely no idea what to do or where to go, or if I’m even on the right track. Why do they make it so nonsensical? They want us to use the product, don’t they? Then why make it impossible to obtain?

Michael Jones · June 19, 2017 at 1:30 PM

As mentioned earlier by David, the BASH command “find” should have the insensitive argument applied, as the actual name of the executable is in all lower case and the “find” command is searching for “WTLibrary.exe” with upper case characters.

FIX:
So, select the “Watchtower Library.app” and right-click (control-key if with one button mouse) and select “Show Package Contents”
Dig down through /Contents/MacOS and open the “run.sh” shell script in a text editor.

Find the two “Find” commands (two lines have the following):
wtl_path=$(find “$drive_c_path/Program Files/Watchtower” -name WTLibrary.exe 2> /dev/null)

Now, either change the name argument to lower case: -name wtlibrary.exe
Better yet, make the command more flexible by making it case-insensitive by inserting the “i” in -name argument: -iname
It should look like this:
wtl_path=$(find “$drive_c_path/Program Files/Watchtower” -iname wtlibrary.exe 2> /dev/null)
Save file and go.

    Hi Michael,

I have gone through the steps:
select the “Watchtower Library.app” and right-click (control-key if with one button mouse) and select “Show Package Contents”
Dig down through /Contents/MacOS and open the “run.sh” shell script in a text editor.

Unfortunately when I open my run.sh; I can only see the 3 lines below:

    #!/bin/bash
    # Get the path to this script and its containing directory.
    python “$(dirname “$0″)/run.py”

    Any ideas or help please?

Chris · June 21, 2017 at 8:41 PM

I got the message: Unfortunately WTLibrary couldn’t be found. Please make sure it is installed using Wine before trying again.

I’m using 2016 edition, do we know why this message came up?

Rodolfo · July 2, 2017 at 5:44 PM

I did everything as mentioned in your instructions, however when I went to download the zip file MAC is not allowing me to open it since it states that it is from an unknown source, can you please help.. Thank you

Any workaround for the update getting stuck at 90%?

Shem Dmytryshyn · July 14, 2017 at 3:22 PM

Yes my update stuck at 90% too. I wondered if the updates would work at all running inside wine like that. Then it seemed to be working, I was excited then it stopped at 90% was deflated. Lol. Let me know if anyone has a fix!

Hans · August 9, 2017 at 7:16 AM

Hi, here is the solution for 90%-problem. Works!

    David · August 28, 2017 at 9:09 AM

Sorry, I’m not seeing a solution there to the 90% freeze (no reference it on the page you linked). I have already followed the “Simple Way” described on the linked page and have installed Wine and the 2016 WtLibrary, but the updates will not apply. Any other ideas?

Melissa M · August 18, 2017 at 11:55 PM

I copied my CD from a Windows laptop to a flash drive so I can install on my Mac mini. I installed wine software and got WT Library installed, but I got stuck on step 12. I don’t see any file named Watchtower Library.app. There are no zip files either unless I am missing something; I am new to using a Mac, but am very proficient with Windows. Where can I find this file? I don’t see WT Library in my applications to open yet. Please help when you have time. Thank you so much!

chris · October 7, 2017 at 2:51 AM

hi i am at the same point as Melissa any suggestions please

Graeme Lee · November 19, 2017 at 9:22 AM

Chris, my Wt Library runs fine directly from the Wine Directory. However, I cannot convert it into an app. When I do I get a message to say t hat Wt Library has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. Np details are shown. I do though have an installation log I can send you.
Regards
Graeme

Denis · December 5, 2017 at 7:32 PM

I am using Wt Library v 2016 in Crossover. All works ok, except that the tooltips in the browser do not work. So when hovering over a scripture or publication reference it does not pop up a preview of information in a tooltip.

Thank you to anyone who might have a solution.

guynato · December 8, 2017 at 3:56 PM

Thanks for the information about installing WTL on a Mac. I followed the steps but at step number 12, where can I download the Watchtower library.app zip file?

Marian · December 25, 2017 at 11:40 AM

For those who get to 90% on the update and then it seems to freeze, decline the update on the Wine screen and open the WT library, go to the Help feature in the WT library and click “check for update” this will update it to the latest publications. It is a large program so be patient.
